Chapter 40 More Important Than He Thought
The news made Josephine’s blood curdle as chills ran up her spine, freezing her to the core. She stared at the television in a daze, Lewis’ words filling her mind. “She won’t have a chance.”
Josephine kept worrying about what Lewis would do to Avery. It turned out he had made Avery do something instead…
Avery was not physically hurt, but it was enough to send her beyond redemption. This accident would not only affect Avery, but the whole Green family would be affected as well. And in this whole situation, Lewis was just a bystander.
Tyler and his family rushed back to the Green mansion. Avery sat on the sofa in a daze, frightened out of her mind. Her voice was h*rse and choked with s*bs. Whenever Tyler tried to question her, she could only gurgle a few noises, not knowing what she was saying herself.
After Tyler found out Avery had met Lewis that morning, he sighed.
“Avy, I’ve told you before not to offend him. You just won’t listen.” Tyler sounded tired.
Avery’s face was pale, and her fingers were still trembling slightly. As unrestrained and bold as she was, she had never murdered another being. The image of her car plowing into bystanders was fresh in her mind, and that feeling when her tires. crushed those bodies kept repeating in her head. Just the thought of it made her stomach churn, and she struggled not to gag.
Mrs. Green said worriedly, “Things have gotten so big that the media can’t be silenced. There’s even someone pulling strings behind the scenes. What should wel do?”
“Get someone to investigate this further and find the person who tampered with the car!” Mr. Green said with a solemn expression.
Tyler shook his head. “It’s no use. Avy drove into those bystanders herself, and they even got it on video. Even if the person survived and we find the preparator, the public won’t acknowledge it. They will just think we are abusing our power and getting someone else to take the blame.”
When Mr. Green heard this, his brows knitted further. “Have they released the list of victims?”
Tyler nodded. “It’s out. The ones that died don’t have much of a background; money should be able to appease them.”

Mr. Green relaxed slightly with that.
Just how much was a life worth these days? A human’s value was determined by their status. For the victims that were involved in the accident, their lives were only worth a million. If the families still wanted to kick up a fuss-five million, ten million- they would eventually keep quiet. The main concern was to silence the media and the public’s voices, keeping damage to the minimum.
Avery was silent the entire time. In the past, she had heard from Tyler just how cruel and merciless Lewis was. She had never seen it for herself, nor did she believe him. Her only impression of him was that he was a piece of trash. She knew now that he wasn’t a good person. He was truly ruthless.
From now onward, she had to live as a murderer, and that felt even worse than just killing her.
“I’ll surrender,” Avery suddenly said.
“Are you crazy?” Tyler frowned.
Mr. Green added, “This accident happened because of a brake failure. It’s not murder, so what are you surrendering for?”
Avery covered her face with her hands, her voice trembling, “I still killed someone; I killed them with my own hands.”
Lewis was right. She was dumb, and he demonstrated it to her today. As long as he wanted, there were a thousand ways to kill her.
Mr. Green got angry, “This situation is grave enough; don’t make things worse for us! I’ve told you already to just stay at home and reflect on what you did wrong, but you just won’t listen! How powerful do you think you are-daring to butt into someone. else’s business? As an illegitimate son, he was able to carve out a b*oody path for himself to take over the Alvarez family. Did you think he was a saint?”
Avery stayed silent, still covering her face.
Tyler thought about it and said, “I’ll talk to Lewis. As long as he is willing to stop, everything will be solved.”
Tyler was still the one who saw the bigger picture. If they insisted on arguing that the car was tampered with and fought with Lewis to the end, they would only lose out in the end. After all, Avery was the one behind the wheel, and Lewis played the cards. Talking to Lewis and asking him for forgiveness would be the best solution.
Mr. Green nodded, saying seriously, “Seems like that is the only way. You’re close to him, you should go and ask him for mercy.”
“Alright.”
Tyler looked at Avery. Her haughtiness had disappeared, and it seemed like it would stay that way for a long while.
As Josephine scoured the Internet, all she could find were malicious comments directed toward Avery. Netizens were known to be vicious. A normal car accident might only go viral for one or two days, but Avery’s accident was different. Since she was the child of a prominent rich family, many bloggers reposted it and those who hated the rich kept fanning the flames, pushing it to the top story in just a few hours. While the opinions online were widely divided, no one knew exactly what would happen to Avery.
Josephine couldn’t help sending Avery a message in the end, but she didn’t reply. Afraid that Lewis would get angry and worsen things, Josephine didn’t dare meet with Avery. She could only worry while seated at home.
Conrad was also reporting the incident at the company.
“With how the situation is developing, they won’t be able to keep it under control for long. The relevant departments will need to perform their duties eventually. Avery should be set to jail.”
Lewis was causally glancing through some documents. “What about the other two?”
“They’re dead, nothing is left of them.”
“Alright, you may leave.”
