Chapter 237 A Daughter

The crowd turned their heads towards the entrance.

Lewis strode in, approached Josephine, and stood before her.

Seeing him defending Josephine, Nancy’s anger, which had not yet subsided, surged even higher.

“Lewis, she’s just a mute! Is it worth it for you to go against me non-stop for this mute?”

Nancy’s voice was loud and sharp, making Josephine’s ears ache.

Lewis met Nancy’s gaze, and his eyes were indifferent. The reflections in his pitch-black pupils exuded a coldness that sent shivers down Nancy’s spine.

Lewis said, “I’m not going against you. You’re the one who’s going against me. Don’t tell me you still haven’t realized that by now.”

Nancy snapped to her senses, and anger resurfaced on her face. “I’m going against you? I’m doing this for your own good! Why can’t you appreciate my well-meaning intentions?”

“Hah, well-meaning intentions.”

His mocking laughter pierced Nancy’s ears. It sounded particularly grating.

“If you genuinely want what’s best for me, please refrain from meddling in my affairs. I can’t always comprehend your so-called well-intentioned actions.”

Lewis’ tone took on a menacing edge, provoking a surge of anger within Nancy. “What do you mean? Are you insinuating rebellion?”

“Why would I rebel?” His tone changed, and he retorted, “Besides being my mother, what else

you have that’s worth for me to rebel against?”

“You…”

Nancy was speechless. She glared at Lewis fiercely. If looks could kill, Lewis would have been torn apart by now.

“Great, Lewis. I’ve raised you for nothing all these years. For the sake of this mute, you’re abandoning even your own mother. What a filial son you are.”

Expressionless, Lewis looked at her as if observing a clown. He allowed her to rant and rave.

Nancy found it ridiculous. She grabbed her bag from the sofa, and her gaze swept over Lewis before landing on Josephine’s face. She then sarcastically remarked through gritted teeth, Such a filial son.”
