The boy looked so thin; malnutrition was written all over his frail frame. His eyes were sunken, and something about that hollow gaze tugged painfully at her heart.

She suddenly couldn’t bear to look any longer.

“Beth, if I manage to get out of here, would you come with me?” she asked softly. “You could testify as a witness, tell the police everything you know. I believe justice always finds its way, eventually. A ship like this—a place that devours people alive–shouldn’t even exist in this world.”
