When Baron saw Natalie and Waylon hugging each other and crying, a wave of discomfort rose in his chest.

He knew Natalie never truly relaxed around him; even in her sleep, her body remained tense. But Baron never pointed it out.

He was afraid she’d overthink it–and yet, that very restraint made him feel even worse.

They were husband and wife, the closest two people in the world, sharing the same bed every night; and still, Natalie couldn’t fully let down her guard with him. How could I not feel frustrated as her husband?

Still, seeing her finally cry out all the fear and pain buried in her heart brought him some relief. But when he noticed Shauna teasing her, his irritation flared again.

“Seems like you’ve had too much free time at work lately. Maybe we should expand operations in Columbo; I could send you there myself.”

Baron’s message nearly scared Shauna out of her wits.

“Mr. Baron, I was wrong! I’ll never do it again! Please don’t send me to Columbo!”

Who on earth could survive in a place like that? I am a delicate beauty, how could Mr. Baron even consider sending me somewhere like Columbo? Shauna froze.

Baron didn’t bother replying; instead, his gaze drifted back to Natalie, now surrounded by Flynn and the others.

He had always known that deep down, Natalic longed for love and warmth from her family. But she was grown now–long past the age of needing a father or a brother. So even though the yearning remained, she kept it buried.

Ironically, this accident had brought the Stone family and Natalie closer than ever before.
