Chapter 148
David looked around and didn’t see anyone raising the bid. He felt it was settled and silently prayed no one would raise the price again. ‘But aren’t all the guests in the crazy rich list?”
According to his judgment, spending millions or billions of dollars was like pulling a ten-dollar bill. David was confident the diamond mine would be Gabriel’s, but his heart kept pounding anxiously.
“340 million dollars going…”
“360 million dollars!”
“400 million dollars!”
Two voices sounded from different directions and David’s face turned pale. He was about to ask for Gabriel’s opinion when the auction host shouted, “Sold for 2.2 billion dollars!”
David was dumbfounded. “What’s going on?”
On the other side, Michael’s hand froze mid-air as he glanced at Gina, and Gina frowned. “Wait. Shouldn’t there be a three-second rule? Why does the host make the deal directly?” She asked.
Michael explained, “The person who bid 400 million dollars just now is from the Atkinson family.”
The Atkinson family had great wealth and influence. They were famous for playing from behind the scenes and their influence mustn’t be underestimated. Perhaps the host finalized the deal directly for fear of offending them. The others present didn’t raise any doubts either. They had reached a tacit understanding. There was no need to offend the Atkinsons over a diamond mine.
Gina had heard of them, but she had never interacted with them. Regardless, the auction’s outcome left her feeling gutted. Michael could tell how Gina felt and asked, “Gina, do you truly want this diamond mine?”
“Yeah.” Gina nodded. “The diamond mines under Dale Group’s name are about to reach 30. I wanted to reach that number by buying a mine from this auction, but I miscalculated.” Gina felt like she was losing control of everything and didn’t like it.

Seeing her, Michael felt guilty. “I’m sorry. If I had investigated in advance that the Atkinsons were coming, L…”
“No, it’s not your fault.” Gina shook her head. She had some regrets, but she knew she had to move forward. She planned to fight for it one last time.
Michael tried to stop her. “You want the Atkinson family to transfer the diamond mine’s ownership to you? Gina, are you insane? They’re not good people. You better not mess around with them!”
But Gina smiled casually. “I’m just talking to them, not robbing them. Relax, I won’t offend them.” Of course, Gina was not afraid of offending them. But they won the auction fair and square, so asking nicely was the best option.
Michael accompanied Gina to the WIP seat of the Atkinson family. A blond man in a white suit sat with three armed bodyguards surrounding him. When the bodyguards saw Gina and Michael approaching, they raised their guns at them without hesitation.
Even with a gun to her head, Gina didn’t show the slightest bit of fear. The blond man with brown eyes saw how calm she was and became interested. He didn’t plan to talk to her at first, but Gina’s courage had earned her his attention.
The man stood up and told the bodyguards, “What are you doing? Pointing a gun at such a beautiful lady? You truly don’t know how to show mercy.”
After the man finished speaking, his eyes were filled with interest as his gaze landed on Gina. The moment their eyes met, Gina was stunned. She suddenly felt a strong sense of familiarity in his eyes.

Gina didn’t look away. She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt that the man in front of her looked like an old friend, only slightly different.
Gina subconsciously looked down at the man’s hands and saw he wore black gloves. She suddenly wanted to know if his fingers were all intact. ‘Does he wear gloves to hide his broken finger?”
The man sighed. “I assume you’re looking for me, but why aren’t you talking? Is it because it’s inconvenient for you to talk? Then let the man behind you state your business, although I’m not interested in talking to a man.”
Gina returned to her senses and answered, “I’m Gina Miller.” She watched the man’s face closely. There was no change in his expression.
The man raised his eyebrows. “What a nice name. A beautiful name for a beauty. It’s all pleasing to the eye.”
Michael, who stood behind Gina, wanted to curse. The man was glib-tongued and had a promiscuous appearance. He felt disgusted. Michael wanted to Lake Gina away, but Gina seemed to have no intention of leaving. So, he decided to stay for her sake.
“Your name?” Gina asked.
“Max Max Griffiths.” He answered.
“Now, can you tell me why you’re looking for me?” Max asked.
