“No, it really wasn’t! Mr. Jackson, I don’t recognize him as my real father. I don’t have a murderer for a father, and anything he does has nothing to do with me!” Olivia said.
“I don’t want to say it a second time,” Gabriel said, his face grim.
Olivia tugged on Noah’s sleeve. “Noah, Noah! Help me!”
Fine beads of sweat oozed from Noah’s forehead. He couldn’t afford to offend Gabriel for Olivia’s sake. After a moment of struggle, Noah said to Olivia, “Mr. Jackson told you to go, so just go.”
Olivia looked at Noah incredulously, as if the intimacy they had just shared was nonexistent. Noah treated her as if she were insignificant.
