Chapter 60

James slowly opened his eyes with a deep look in his gaze. “What’s Rhett got to do, sticking hist nose into Vincent’s business?”

James hadn’t pegged Rhett as the meddlesome elder brother type.

Bill was kinda worried, the FitzGerald family and the Turner family in Silvergrove City were on Kristin’s case like white on rice. “Mr. Bryce, the FitzGerald family and the Turner family are giving Ms. Turner the runaround. Do you want to tangle with this hot mess?”

James let out a derisive chuckle. “As for the dame I choose to shield, what can the FitzGerald family and the Turner family do about it? Besides, Rhett is not the kind to poke his nose into others‘ business.”

“But Mr. FitzGerald is still on the hunt for her,” Bill uttered, not sure how to handle it.

“Let him,” James said curtly before hanging up the phone.

Tossing his phone aside, James got up and walked to the living room door.

His hand froze mid–air, and he rubbed his temples before entering his bedroom.

Just let Kristin have a good rest.

Bright and early the next day, Kristin got up at the crack of dawn. She was new on the job and had morning shifts all week. She needed to get going early for the handover.

Rifling through the fridge, Kristin noted that James‘ place really lacked any homey vibes. Aside from a few eggs, you couldn’t scrounge up any other ingredients.

Clear as day, James didn’t bother with a housekeeper and never ate at home.

Dashing out of the complex, Kristin, card in hand, picked out groceries with serious intent at the supermarket right outside these fancy neighborhoods. The prices were through the roof. A single cabbage cost a whopping ten bucks.

Head hanging as she went to pay, Kristin consoled herself. After all, it wasn’t her money she was spending.

After getting the groceries, Kristin whipped up breakfast and set it on the dining table.

The doorbell rang.

James, roused from sleep, walked out a bit cranky, clad in his robe, leaning against the door frame all lazy and devil–may–care. “Who’s there?”

Seeing the breakfast Kristin had made, there was a split second of surprise in James‘ eyes. It occurred to him that the esteemed Ms. Turner had actually prepared breakfast, and it actually looked pretty decent.

James, who never ate breakfast at home, suddenly felt his appetite kick in.

At the door, Kristin opened the door and looked up, freezing on the spot.

Shock plastered on her face, and her throat seemed to clog up.

What was Rhett doing in Crescendo Town?

Rhett’s mood was foul, his expression tired as if he hadn’t slept all night.
