The moment the words left Dalton’s mouth, Winston’s eyes flew wide open. His entire face stiffened, and something dark and unreadable flickered in his gaze.

“I’m tired too,” Dalton said flatly. His expression turned even colder, as if he were looking at a stranger.

“I was always worrying about how you felt…”

That was only half true.

Back then, he really had cared about Winston’s feelings–worried he’d get hurt, scared he’d feel wronged…

But he hadn’t felt tired. Now though, Dalton was too mad to think clearly; he might’ve looked calm, but the things coming out of his mouth were raw and unfiltered, spilling out without a second thought.

Winston’s pupils trembled slightly, and he instinctively took a small step back.
