Samuel suddenly appeared by Jean’s side, lowering his gaze to look at her. His eyes had taken on a soft, almost watery glow.

His clear voice fell gently by her car. “Jean, I heard what happened.”

Jean looked up at his words and met his eyes, filled with concern.

“Let me see the letter.” He reached out his hand, asking for it.
