Sean gazed at Claire, who was resting in his arms, her consciousness muddled. He was taken aback to realize that she was the same girl he had encountered a few days ago in the hospital stairwell, asking him for a cigarette.

Back then, she had been a shadow of herself-frail and forlorn, sitting on the steps with a cigarette, like a little abandoned creature, eliciting a deep sense of pity.

Now, she was a completely different person.

Her cheeks were flushed like ripe peaches, her eyes closed with long lashes fluttering, and the stray strands of hair on her forehead were damp with sweat, clinging to her smooth skin.

Her lips, a soft shade of crimson, parted slightly, releasing heated breaths interspersed with unconscious murmurs.

Her small hands moved with abandon, roaming across his chest until they unexpectedly tore open his collar with a soft ripping sound.
