Chapter 268

Mandy woke up at the crack of dawn. After a quick wash, she set out for the Foster residence.

She'd already gotten the address from her mother the night before.

There was a good reason for Mandy and Claire's close bond.

To Claire, in the entire Linwood family, only May had ever treated her kindly.

And Mandy had gone even further. On the day of Claire's college entrance exams, Mandy braved a downpour, pedaled her bike across town to deliver Claire's admission slip—and ended up breaking her right wrist in a nasty fall.

The injury meant Mandy's hand was painfully slow during her own high school entrance exams. She missed out on the top schools and wound up at an ordinary one instead.

Claire had carried guilt over that for years.

Neither May nor Mandy owed her anything, yet they'd always treated her with nothing but genuine warmth.

So, after Claire was released from prison, when the Linwoods threatened her using May and Mandy, she kept silent and endured it all-she couldn't bear to let them suffer because of her again.

To Mandy, Claire was more than just a big sister-she was a mentor.

When Claire started high school, Mandy was just entering middle school. Before she met Claire, Mandy's grades had always been pretty average. Becoming top of her class was only possible because Claire, a star student herself, tutored her
