Chapter 139

“You can never be too sure.” Sadie shrugged, her volce low and confessional. “Mr. Smith has a love child from a fling he had years ago.”

That was treading into the murky waters of personal secrets. Natalie caught the hint and didn’t prod any further.

“Anything else you wanna know, Natalie?” Sadle couldn’t help but ask, her curiosity piqued.

“No, that’s all. Go get some rest, it’s way past midnight,” Natalie replied softly.

Sadie found it odd that Natalie didn’t inquire about how Nate had been doing these past few years, but then again, considering the bad blood between Brian and Natalle, maybe it was best not to stir up sad memories.

After one last glance at Natalie, Sadie turned and left the room without another word.

Once alone, Natalie’s gaze lingered on the envelope stuffed with photos before a flicker of malice crossed her eyes. She grabbed her purse, which Sadie had brought up earller, and rummaged through it to find a compact mirror. Sliding the mirror aside, she retrieved a tiny SIM card hidden within.

She charged her phone, powered it up, and inserted the secret SIM card. The contacts list held only a handful of numbers. Natalie dialed one and waited patiently for an answer.

A groggy voice answered after several seconds.
