Chapter 38 Not Letting You

Errol threw open the door, turned on the light, and quickly looked around.

A small speaker and a charger seemed to have fallen onto the floor. Apart from that, nothing seemed unusual about the room.

Not seeing Cedric, Maia was relieved.

“I told you something must have fallen.”

Errol still felt that something was off but didn’t dwell on it. “You’re lucky that it wasn’t a burglar. You could’ve been in danger.”

“Errol’s right. It’s not safe to live all by yourself nowadays. Why don’t you move in with me?”

“It’s okay, Aunt Tess, the security at Cloud Nine is top–notch. I’ll be fine.” Maia knew that no thieves could break into her apartment… just her ex–husband.

She didn’t want them to know he was there, or they might get the wrong idea.

Maia closed the bedroom door and saw Tess and Errol off. After telling her again to be careful, they finally left.

When the door was finally closed, Maia let out a huge sigh of relief.

Just as she turned around, Cedric suddenly appeared and held her against the wall.

“Would it be so bad if they saw me here?” he whispered into her ear.

“Of course!” Maia said curtly. “We’re divorced, all right? They might get the wrong idea if they saw you here.”

Upset, Cedric held her chin. “Are you so eager to distance yourself from me?”
