“You still can! We can still fix this,” he takes a step towards me and holds out his hand. I grip the handle of my sword and slide it out of its place under my vest. “Come with me. I can fix it. We can fix it,”

The bit of hope he was grasping onto shatters. I see the moment when he realizes that no one will help him anymore. His pores begin to open up as the thick needles of his wraith fur come out. I lower my sword and the guys open fire on him.

The old man screeches like a falcon in peril. He falls to the floor as his shift takes over. I unlock my vest and slip it off in case I need to shift. I toss it aside. Violetta drops on his other side with her twin Sai. Her blades and mine are made out of the only thing that is going to get through his thick skin.

I push off and spin around throwing the blade at him. It cuts across his mouth when he tries to dodge it. The blade hits the wall across the way as I land on his back. I rip the Sai out of his back and swing forward stabbing his shoulder. Once, twice, and then I’m flying across the room when his massive claws dig into my back.
