Chapter 299

Adeline leaned on her mother's shoulder and exclaimed, "That's great, Mom. I'll get changed right now and go with you!"

Uncle George was a gangster, so the Houghs avoided him like the plague. Her mother was the only person who maintained a constant line of communication with him, and their relationship was considered close. She was aware of what had transpired between the two of them. When her mother was pregnant with Adeline, Adeline's uncle forced Adeline's father to marry her mother in the past. For this reason, her mother felt so much appreciation for him.

As long as Uncle George continued to ask for money, her mother would hand it over to him without a second thought. Adeline used to believe that her mother was a fool and that she should avoid people like her uncle, who were greedy. Her mother was quite prescient, as she often asked her uncle to perform risky tasks. Her uncle would find a way out if they were to be investigated later.

She had worked out everything, and if her uncle could handle the situation successfully, she would pay him a hefty sum. Moreover, she had plenty of money, but what she needed was a name, and Mrs. Arnold was the name that would make her stand out. Once she was officially Mrs. Arnold, she would be set up for success in the years to come.

The two went for a ride to George's house, an old-fashioned building done up in a western style and used to be the home of the Hough Family. They pulled up to the front entrance, got out, and Gwen rang the bell.

"Mom, would Uncle George be at home?"

Adeline believed that locating him in a casino would be more practical, given that he frequently gambled.

Gwen rang the doorbell again. "He has gone broke recently, so he must be at home."

Adeline was quite shocked to learn that. Is my mother a fortune teller? How can she tell if he's broke or not? On the other hand, she admired her mother's intelligence. Compared to her mother, she admitted she was not even a tenth as skilled in strategy and method. If she could just keep her mother happy, she might be able to win Isaac over.

At that moment, a woman dressed in a nightgown with her hair in a messy bun as though she had just woken up came out. The twitch of a cigarette between her fingers accompanied her impatient questions. "Who are you looking for?"

At first glance, Gwen immediately knew she was a prostitute.

"I'm looking for George." Having said that, she walked into the yard, oblivious to the woman who had just spoken to her.

Seeing that she barged in without permission, the woman cursed, "Excuse me, did I let you in? Get out of this instance."

Adeline then uttered coldly, "This house belongs to my mother. She let George live here, so you have no right to kick her out."

The woman was taken aback by her statement. It turns out that this old lady is the one who sponsors George, she snorted and walked out of the house.

Adeline walked into the yard and was shocked to see that it had become overgrown with weeds since she had last seen it years before. As anticipated, everything that was going well would end up going wrong when her uncle was involved! She couldn't fathom how filthy and disorganized the house's interior must have been. Doesn't he have a maid? Why don't they clean the house?

Although this western-style building was quite dated, the location was very convenient. It was centrally located and comfortable to live in. There is no doubt that they could make a profit by selling it.
