Hugo felt utterly alone. No one was on his side. Not even Pearl, whom he loved, stood by him.

He was overwhelmed with a mix of emotions he couldn't quite name. Was it pain, despair, or disappointment toward Pearl?

"You know, I could have let you be," Hugo said softly, touching her cheek with the back of the knife. "But what you said really hurt me, Pearl. You've shown you don't deserve my love."

Alarm bells went off in Pearl's head.

In the next instant, Hugo slashed the knife at her face. Pearl dodged just in time, but the blade still grazed her, leaving a thin line of blood.

Richard's heart sank. "Hugo, stop this madness or I'll make sure you regret it!" Seeing Pearl injured pained him deeply.

"Oh? You care about her that much? Save her, then. Give me what I want," Hugo demanded, his cold and emotionless.

He brandished the knife with skill, a reminder of his karate lessons as a kid, showing his readiness for anything, even murder. Richard took a deep breath. "Tell me what you want."
