Chapter 53:

After leaving the Cox family estate, Belinda found herself standing by the roadside, struggling to get a taxi. Anthony, preferring solitude, had chosen this suburban home for its peacefulness. The area was secluded, with few cars passing by.

Frustrated, Belinda turned to a ride-hailing app, but even after ten minutes, no cars were available. Feeling stranded, she reluctantly called her friend Madisyn for help.

The previous night’s heavy rain had left puddles scattered along the road, reflecting the trees above. As she stared into these watery mirrors, Belinda called her best friend. “Can you come pick me up? I’m at the Cox family estate gate,” she asked.

Madisyn sounded surprised on the other end of the line. “Darren told me you were in the hospital. I was about to wrap up here and visit you. What happened last night? Why did you go back to the estate?”

“It’s a long story,” Belinda sighed, just as she heard the distant rumble of an engine starting.
