“I can‘t help but wonder... I wonder if our mother felt bad when she looked down at me as she set me in that basket and left me on dad‘s doorstep. How could she walk away from her own child like that?” 

Those were the last words I heard from Bree as I desperately pleaded for her to set Scarlet down next to Rhen. My heart was beating so violently that it felt dangerous, but I was ready 

to do anything to protect my daughter. If something happened to Scarlet, I would lose the very reason for my heart to continue to beat. 

My body suddenly slammed against something hard and my eyes shot open, and a loud gasp left my lips. The last thing! could remember was how I was trying to convince Bree to set Scarlet down, and then her strange words.
