43 NEW MATE

Cayden POV

The door flies open before my hand even reaches the handle. I’m staring into the most beautiful green eyes I’ve ever seen. Her long red hair frames her beautiful face. She smiles and my heart squeezes in my chest. Riggs is growling and pacing. “Mate” she says and her smile is enough to make me weak in the knees. “Mate” I say and pull her to me. Riggs wants me to take her right now and make her ours, but we need to focus on Selma. She was helping us and now she is in danger because of it. “I would love nothing more than to take you upstairs and make you mine, but I can’t right now.” She pulls back and I see hurt flash in her eyes. Riggs whimpers and I place my hand on her face. “My aunt is in danger and I need to help her. As soon as she is back safely, I will show you how much I want you, mate.” She smiles and we step inside the room. I’m shocked to see Calliope standing across the room. I haven’t seen her since I left the collective to find Clara. Her eyes land on me and she smiles. “Calliope, I didn’t expect to see you here.” Before she can answer, the door to the dining room opens and my mother walks in with Hudson. I hand linked her on my way to the dining room that I needed her to meet me here. “What’s wrong, Cayden” my mother says. “That ba**ard has Selma and he knows about Faith.” I hear two growls behind me and turn to see Eli and Calliope’s eyes are black. “No one will hurt my pup” Eli says and I nod. I’m shocked when he pulls Calliope into his arms and buries his nose in her neck. I turn back to my mother and her expression is unreadable as she stares at Calliope and Eli.

“I need to get to Selma. I have no idea what he has done to her or what he plans to do”, I say to no one in particular. I start toward the door and a hand grabs my forearm, causing tingles to erupt at the contact. “You are not going anywhere without me. I just found you. I have no intentions of losing you, Cayden.” I don’t even know her name yet, but mine sounds like heaven on her lips. “Mate, I am a hybrid which I’m sure you can scent. He is a powerful warlock. I love that you want to help me, but I will not lose you.” She looks around the room before her eyes close. I feel a gust of wind rush past me causing goosebumps to form on my skin. The scent of my mate intensifies. My eyes darken at how intense and different her scent is now. “I’m more than a wolf mate. I am a wolf-fae hybrid.” I hear a gasp but I don’t take my eyes off of this amazing woman. “Now, let’s go get your aunt. I’m sure my father, Lily, and Pheobe will help us.” I pull her to me again and bury my face in her neck. “What is your name mate?” “My name is Penny Lillian Bloom.” “I, Cayden Michael Merritt, accept you Penny Lillian Bloom as my mate.” I feel her hold on me tighten. “I, Penny Lillian Bloom, accept you, Cayden Michael Merritt, as my mate.” I feel the bond start to form and Riggs growls low. I pull back and my mother rushes over, wrapping my mate in a hug. Hudson slaps me on the back and I nearly fall forward from the force. He laughs and I give him the side eye. “Congratulations Cayden” he says. “Thank you”, I say.

“I linked Lily and Pheobe to join us” Eli says. I turn and notice that Eli is holding Faith but she is reaching for Calliope. I watch as she takes Faith in her arms and she snuggles into Calliope. My heart squeezes in my chest. I’m not angry that Eli has found his second chance or that Calliope has found her first. Just in the little time I spent with Calliope, I know she is strong and kind. I’m sad that Clara won’t get the chance to hold Faith or watch her grow. Calliope walks toward me and she places Faith in my arms. She squeezes my arm and looks into my eyes. “She will always know who her mother is. My wolf and I have accepted her as our own pup, but that doesn’t mean I will replace the woman that gave her life. I promise you that.” I feel my mother walking around me and coming to stand in front of Calliope. She pulls Calliope into a hug and I can feel a tear running down my cheek. Her wolf accepted my niece and I’m sure that Clara would want Faith to have a strong woman like Calliope in her life. The door to the room opens and Lily, Pheobe, and Rose all walk inside. I can tell Rose is uncomfortable as she keeps her eyes cast down but I have no idea why. “Cayden, tell me what we are dealing with”, Lily says, and I smile.

Selma POV
