Regret Novel 190

Chapter 190

The thought had never even crossed her mind in the past–she wouldn’t have dared imagine that Evander could pity her.

Her lashes trembled slightly, her eyes calm and unreadable. “If you fall once, you’ll know whether it hurts or not.”

He gave a soft laugh. “Are you mad at me now?”

Charlotte said nothing.

Evander let her go, his hand resting lightly on her impossibly slender waist. “Fine, I won’t touch you. Just be careful in the shower, all right? Don’t slip.”

Charlotte kept her back to him, nodding absentmindedly.

Once he left, relief flooded through her. Only then did her body finally relax, tension draining from her shoulders.

She glanced down at the wad of gauze still pressed under her arm, her fingers curled around the tape from the injection. If Evander had forced himself on her just now, he would have discovered everything…

The next day, as soon as Charlotte arrived at the hospital, she heard that the head nurse’s mother had been let go. The woman had worked as a caregiver in the hospital for over a decade, and every patient she’d cared for had been more than satisfied.

She was only a year away from retirement, and yet, fór reasons no one could understand, the hospital had dismissed her.

Charlotte had no idea any of this was connected to her–until the head nurse stormed into her office. “Dr. Sterling, my mother may be getting on in years, but she deserved to retire with dignity, not be fired! Do you know how humiliating this is for someone her age?”
