Chapter 22 Emily’s Finace
Since Jeffrey took office, Betty, who used to like working overtime, began to get off work on time. She went back home early today as well.
After returning home by car, Betty fell back onto the sofa and found that she hadn’t recovered from the cold yet. Her muscles were sore.
Betty was really tired, not only physically, but also mentally. She was too tired to get up from the sofa.
Suddenly, she heard someone approaching. She got up in a hurry and saw that Kerwin came to her.
Instead of wearing a white shirt as usual, Kerwin wore a casual gray sweater, framing his perfect figure.
“How come you are home so early today?” She was a little surprised since Kerwin usually worked
late.
Kerwin gazed at Betty.
Her face was still pale, and her eyes were red. It was obvious that she cried during the day.
“Emm..” Kerwin replied blandly. “Dinner is ready.”
Betty came to the table and was stunned when she saw the dishes on the table.
It turned out that most of the dishes were soup or vegetables. Some of them even were medicated food, which was good for Betty’s health.
Although they lived together for a short time, Betty knew that Kerwin liked spicy food. But today’s dishes were light.
Betty sat at the table confusedly. Kerwin ladled a bowl of soup for Betty and said, “Have some chicken soup to warm you up.”
Betty was stunned.

She realized that all these dishes were specially made for her.
Betty suddenly felt that her cold and tired heart was warmed up bit by bit.
She felt happy that someone cared about her.
“What?” Seeing Betty eating nothing, Kerwin frowned slightly. “Does the food not agree with you?”
“No.” Being afraid that Kerwin saw her red eyes, Betty lowered her head and picked up the spoon.
The fresh and warm chucken soup warmed up Betty’s body all over. And she couldn’t help remembering the good old school days, She remembered that when she caught a cold in college, Jeffrey would sneak into the girls’
dormitory and bring her some chicken soup.
They didn’t have much money back then, but they were really happy. Even the cheap chicken soup in a small restaurant on the street and their talk on the hard bedboard made her happy.
But everything changed during the past two years.
“What are you thinking?” The deep and sweet voice of Kerwin suddenly pulled Betty back to reality.
Betty regained her composure and put on a smile quickly. “Nothing.”
It seemed that something suddenly occurred to her. Betty added, “Oh, I almost forget. I am going to have dinner with my father tomorrow night. No need to prepare dinner for me.”
“Fine.” Kerwin replied and paused for a moment. “I will visit your father and mother when I am free.”
Betty was stunned and blurted out, “No need.”
Kerwin raised his eyebrows slightly.
Betty realized that she couldn’t refuse Kerwin directly to embarrass him. She said awkwardly, “My parents… Are on the outs… My mother is not feeling very well, either. So…”
Looking at Betty being panicked, Kerwin put on a faint smile.
Betty didn’t know that Kerwin had investigated her family thoroughly.
“Oh?” Kerwin just replied blandly. “But I want to take you to meet my family when you are free.”
Betty was a bit shocked.
This was the first time Kerwin told Betty about his family.
“Are you saying meeting your parents?” Betty asked cautiously.
“No. My parents are dead.”
Betty was embarrassed. “I’m sorry.”
“Never mind.” Kerwin remained calm. “I mean my grandfather and my eldest brother, Henry.
Besides, Henry’s son is getting married recently.”
Hearing this, Betty smiled bitterly.
It must be a good day for people to get married.
“Fine.” Since Betty had married Kerwin it was notwelfarb—-
