Chapter 23 Jeffrey’s Real identity
“Betty, are you happy that I will become your brother-in-law?” Jeffrey looked down at Betty and asked in a sarcastic tone.
“Do you want me to be happy?” Betty looked at Jeffrey coldly and said,” Or do you want me to call you the young master of the Martin family?”
Jeffrey suddenly pinched Betty’s hand with greater strength, which made her hand turn red.
Betty seemed to feel no pain and put on a mocking smile instead. “What? Can’t I say it?”
The poor boy, who could not even pay the tuition, turned out to be the young master of the Martins. “I really didn’t know you back then.”
Betty saying this was more of mocking herself instead of sneering at Jeffrey.
How came she believed that Jeffrey was from a poor family? He couldn’t even cook meals and had never taken a bus.
Irritated by Betty’s remarks, Jeffrey raised his voice because of anger, “Yes! I lied to you before. But, so what? If I didn’t pretend to be a poor boy, I would never know that you are a material girl.”
Jeffrey disliked other people calling him ‘The young master of the Martin family’. And he hated those people coming to him because of his family background.
Therefore, Jeffrey refused to go to college in the United Kingdom as arranged by his father. Instead, he went to Yale University in Connecticut and pretended to be a poor boy.
It was at that time that he met Betty.
as
Jeffrey really cherished Betty back then. Betty didn’t know his true identity, but she still loved him.
But later, everything changed. Betty abandoned him because he was poor and even provided services to men for money.

Thinking of the disgusting photos before, Jeffrey felt a pain in his heart and grabbed Betty even harder, “Betty, now you know that I am not only the EIC of the magazine but also the young master of the Martins, do you regret it? Oh, but it’s too late.”
Betty raised her eyes slowly, stared into Jeffrey’s angry eyes, and muttered, “Right. It is too late.”
Before Jeffrey reacted, Betty suddenly shook him off. “If time flew backward, I wish I have never met you.”
With this, Betty turned around and left him.
After walking into the corridor, Betty finally couldn’t bear it anymore. She held the wall and burst into tears.
She used to think that it was unnecessary to explain to Jeffrey. But now, she didn’t bother to explain to him, who cheated and distrusted her before.
It was not until now that she realized that her first love, her most precious memory, was a total lie.
“Betty?”
As Betty was on the verge of collapsing, she heard a clear and sweet voice.
Raising her head, Betty saw Emily with a strange look, standing beside her.
Betty held back her tears immediately, “What?”
“Nothing. Mom told me to get some wine. Would you go with me?”
Betty nodded and followed Emily to the wine cellar.
“Jeffrey doesn’t like red wine.” Emily suddenly said as she chose the red wine. “He doesn’t look like a rich man from a powerful family. He doesn’t have the habits of rich people.”
Betty didn’t know why Emily said this. So she could only nod and give a short reply for confirmation.
“So it was reasonable that you didn’t know that he was the young master of the Martin family back
then.” Emily continued.
Hearing this, Betty was stunned. She looked up but only saw Emily smiling brightly. “But Betty, it’s too late for you to know the truth. Jeffrey is my fiance now.”
Betty felt that all her blood flew backward.
She suddenly realized that Emily knew her past with Jeffrey.
“You…” Betty was about to ask further but only got interrupted by Emily.
“You must be wondering how I know your past history with Jeffrey?” Emily smiled brightly even more. “Jeffrey told me all about it.”
Hearing this, Betty felt uncomfortable.
Betty wondered whether Jeffrey told their past to Emily as if it was a great joke.
“Oh.” Even if Betty felt a bit distressed, she didn’t want to show weakness in front of Emily.
“Eh, Betty, you don’t seem very happy.” Emily held a bottle of wine and approached her step by step.
