The scorching heat of Caden’s hand made me catch my breath. This man! He’s barely recovering and already being so improper.

I never realized how thick–skinned Caden could be.

Seeing my silence, Caden tightened his grip on my hand just a bit. “Don’t forget, you promised me. No backing out.”

I caressed his hand. “Yes, I promised you. I won’t back out. But for now, we need to find a safe place.”

With Caden waking up and looking slightly better, my heart finally began to feel a bit more at ease. His illness mainly stemmed from seawater causing his wounds to become inflamed and giving him a high fever. Physical measures alone wouldn’t bring down the fever, especially since the temperature outside had dropped. The blazing sun beat down on the beach, unbearable even for a healthy person, let alone Caden with his high fever.

What made it worse was that I had no medical supplies, and I was growing increasingly anxious.
