The world, once mired in chaos, snapped into focus in an instant, and every reflection in her eyes was stained with the hue of blood.

She tumbled to the ground next to Ian, her knees hitting the concrete as she desperately tried to staunch the bleeding.

“Help! Somebody help!”

Her cries echoed around the empty warehouse, her voice returning to her as a haunting reminder of their isolation.

In that moment, the chaos ceased to grip her. She shook Ian’s body, tears streaming uncontrollably down her cheeks.

Nydia stood atop the staircase, her grip tightening on the gun. She tried to light a cigarette, but her trembling fingers refused to cooperate.

Her bodyguard hurried over.

“Nydia, what should we do?”

Nydia slapped him upside the head in frustration.

“What the hell are you waiting for? Get him to a hospital! Any later and we’ll be arranging a funeral!”

“Right away, right away.”

Nydia attempted to descend, but her legs nearly buckled beneath her.
