Chapter 105

Daniel’s POV.

I stepped into Christiana’s office, expecting the usual sight of her poised behind her desk, the picture of elegance and control. Instead, what I saw stopped me dead in my tracks. She wasn’t seated. She wasn’t working. She was sobbing, her body slumped over her desk, her face buried in her hands, her shoulders shaking violently as she cried.

My heart clenched at the sight. This was a side of Christiana I’d never seen. She had always been strong on the outside, always held it together. But I knew better. Underneath that tough exterior, she was soft, fragile even. She needed care, needed someone to be there for her. I could see that now more than ever.

Without thinking, I crossed the room quickly, closing the distance between us. “Christiana?” I called softly, kneeling beside her, gently placing a hand on her back. Her sobs didn’t cease. If anything, they grew louder. Raw. Painful.

“Hey, what’s going on?” I asked, my voice full of concern as I stroked her back, trying to calm her down. “Talk to me. Please.”

She lifted her head, her eyes red and swollen, her mascara smeared. Her face was tear–streaked, her lips trembling. It hit me like a punch to the gut, seeing her like this. Christiana never showed this side to anyone, but right now, she was breaking. I could feel her pain.

“Daniel,” she choked out between sobs, her voice so broken it hurt to hear. “I…I don’t even know where to start. It’s all falling apart. Everything. It’s going from bad to worse…”

I frowned, confused but desperate to understand. “What do you mean? What’s happening?“”

She wiped at her tears but they just kept coming. Her voice was shaking as she tried to speak. “My kids… they won’t talk to me anymore. They… they hate me.”

I stiffened, shocked. “What? No, Christiana, they don’t hate
