Estelle’s gaze flickered, and she had a hunch about the underlying reasons. Old Mr. Jarvis continued, “Old Mr. Quintin is just itching to see Vivian again. He’s using this opportunity to call her back. If they do the paternity test now and find out Evelyn isn’t Nana, what reason would he have left to bring Vivian home?” Estelle furrowed her brow, “But what if it turns out Evelyn isn’t Nana? If Vivian comes back and thinks Old Mr. Quintin has deceived her, won’t she resent him even more?” Old Mr. Jarvis let out a weary sigh, “He’d made mistakes in the past. Right now, Old Mr. Quintin can’t bother with those details; he just wants to see Vivian.” Estelle’s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and stepped aside to answer, “Jonathan!” Jonathan’s voice came through, “Where are you?” “At Old Mr. Quintin’s house!” “I’m heading over!” The sound of a car engine hummed in the background. “Oh, and Mom called me earlier. She said Evelyn went out this afternoon to wander around the neighborhood but hasn’t come back yet. Has she reached out to you?” Estelle pressed her lips together, “She’s here at Old Mr. Quintin’s place.” Jonathan raised an eyebrow in surprise, “She found her way there on her own?” “Yeah!” “What’s the situation?” “Old Mr. Quintin is so desperate to find his granddaughter, he’s convinced himself that Evelyn is Nana without even waiting for a DNA test,” Estelle said with a helpless chuckle. “He’s even toying with the idea of setting her up with my brother.” Jonathan chuckled softly, “That’s fast!” Estelle looked down, her voice tinged with worry, “I’m really concerned.” She was worried that Evelyn wasn’t Old Mr. Quintin’s granddaughter, and that both Old Mr. Quintin and Evelyn would end up with false hopes. Jonathan reassured her, “Don’t worry, I’ll be there soon.” “Okay, drive safely.” After hanging up, Estelle returned to the pavilion where only Gabriel was still present. Gabriel turned towards her, “What do you think the odds are?” Estelle took a seat across from him, her voice even, “To be honest, I only heard about Vivian and Nana from my grandfather before heading to Citadel. Then, I stumbled upon Evelyn there, and after spotting a birthmark on her back, I rescued her.” “She mentioned she was adopted at around three or four years old and had recently had a falling out with her adoptive parents.” “Her background and distinctive marks closely match Nana’s, so I brought her back to J City. The plan was to confirm everything with a DNA test, but she ended up finding her way here first.” Gabriel leaned against a pillar, his expression cool and detached, “If she truly is Old Mr. Quintin’s granddaughter, that would be great.” Estelle teased him, “What, you’re hoping to marry her?” Gabriel snorted with

considering what the girl wants, deciding her fate just like that!” Estelle chuckled, “How did your blind date go today?” Gabriel smirked, “I should be asking you. You knew it was Sylvia and you still dragged me there? Magdalen might not be aware of my history with her, but surely you knew, right?” Estelle crossed her legs and leaned against the wooden railing, her voice warm with mirth, “I admit it seemed funny at first, but then I thought, Sylvia’s left the agency, she’s not your subordinate anymore. There could be a chance, right?” “What chance?” Gabriel eyed her skeptically. Estelle shrugged, “You really don’t like Sylvia? I think she’s great. If she weren’t, Magdalen wouldn’t have thought to set you two up.” Gabriel said flatly, “She’s fine, but we’re not compatible.” Their past was complicated. She had come to his bed seeking protection, and he had indulged her because, well, he was a man with needs. Perhaps it was because they had seen too much of each other’s hidden agendas, making it impossible to
