Chapter 2507

They stepped inside, and Sophia got straight to the point. “Alright, talk. Why did you do it?"

Jason shrugged off his suit jacket, loosened his tie, and sank onto the couch. Behind him, the white wooden window frames looked almost golden in the evening sun, bathing his silhouette in a soft, amber glow.

The light was warm and liquid, but when it hit the metal rims of his glasses, it turned cold and steely.

He fixed Sophia with a deep, unreadable stare. "I never thought you'd actually come."

Sophia let out a dry laugh. “Did you really think I wouldn't demand an explanation? I'm not about to sit around in the dark."

Jason didn't say a word at first. Instead, he pulled out his phone, found a photo of her and Robin standing together in the sunset, and set it on the coffee table between them. "Why did you see him again? What did you promise me before I left?"

Sophia picked up the phone, her face shifting as the memory hit. The picture was from the night Hugo had organized that class reunion-the one she'd turned down. Later, as she was leaving work, Hugo and Robin had shown up at her office.

The photo was sharp, clearly taken from an angle where they wouldn't notice. Not the café across the street- probably Tina, sneaking a shot. Tina must've sent it to Diana, and Diana, ever the pot-stirrer, had passed it along to Jason, managing to sow one last seed of doubt even on her way out.

Sophia wanted to explain, but the whole thing seemed absurd.

"So, that's it? You shut me out because of a single photo?"
