Chapter 317 Mutating Cells

Jonathan's expression changed suddenly, and he jumped in alarm. “No way! If we do that, are we not sending the cacodemon to die? The people in Thymion are terrified of cacodemons. They wouldn't treat it with mercy and compassion.”

“However, that's our only option. Neither of us is capable of dealing with the cacodemon now, so we have to send it to Thymion,” Jeff uttered.

Jonathan ignored Jeff and turned toward Mabel. “Do you think so as well?”

Mabel smiled bitterly and answered, “Chief Yount and I are working for the country, Jonathan. We can't act on our emotions like you do.”

Fury filled Jonathan's eyes when he said, “I'll bring the cacodemon away!”

Jeff voiced out. “Jonathan, please don't act rashly. We're having a discussion, aren't we? If you can't accept my suggestion, we can just forget about it. However, there's one condition. You must take the cacodemon with you and leave Chanaea. You can also bring it to a tropical jungle in another country. I think it's probably going to live more comfortably there.” Jeff paused and continued, “Having said that, I don't think that'll do the cacodemon any good. Everyone has their own fate, and the same can be said about cacodemons. No matter how hard we try, there are things we can never change.”

Jonathan calmed down upon hearing that. “Okay. Please make the arrangement for me. I'll leave with the cacodemon tonight.”

“Sure!” Jeff nodded.

Jonathan then rose to his feet and left Jeff's office. I can't blame Jeff and Mabel. After all, everyone has their own opinion and reason for doing things differently. Still, I'm not comfortable with the fact that even Mabel agreed with the suggestion of getting rid of the cacodemon.

Jonathan went back to Zoe's bedroom and saw the cacodemon nestling in the woman's arms the moment he entered the room.

The cacodemon got out of bed when it saw Jonathan entering the bedroom and called him “Daddy” in a loving manner. In response, Jonathan picked the cacodemon up. He would always remember the conversation the cacodemon had with the Lone Demon Beast before the latter died. The cacodemon and the Lone Demon Beast were both mystical creatures, so they were incredibly insightful. When the Lone Demon Beast said the cacodemon shouldn't be saving humans, the cacodemon stated that it would never let anyone harm its mother. Jonathan was touched because of the cacodemon's dedication.

Since the cacodemon is willing to do whatever it takes to protect me, I should also save it and forget about the fact that it's a monster and whether it's capable of causing chaos. Zoe's eyes brimmed with gratefulness when she saw Jonathan. “Thank you for saving my son, Mr. Lawson.”

Jonathan flashed her a faint smile and replied, “Well, it saved me. Perhaps this is fate.”

Elated, Zoe said, “Nevertheless, I'm just happy it's still alive.”

“But Zoe, I need to bring the cacodemon away,” Jonathan uttered.

Zoe's face went pale when she heard that. “Why? Where are you bringing it to?”

“Please remember the fact that cacodemons can't coexist with humans. Neither Thymion nor our country would let the matter slide. Hence, I'm planning to bring it to a tropical forest overseas. That's where it belongs.”

“But...” Obviously, Zoe was reluctant to part with the cacodemon.

“As long as it's still alive, you guys can still see each other,” Jonathan said.

Zoe knew what Jonathan said made sense. She then embraced the cacodemon and nodded, agreeing with Jonathan's suggestion.

Although the cacodemon couldn't speak fluently, it was smart, and it had amazing comprehension skills.

Jonathan couldn't really trust Jeff, so he brought the cacodemon out of Pearl Building and made it put on some clothes and a cap. That way, no one would notice anything peculiar about it.

Right before Jonathan started driving, Mabel rushed up to them and sat in the back seat.

The moment Mabel got into the car, the cacodemon bared its teeth ferociously.

Jonathan didn't utter a word when he saw that.

Instead, Mabel took the initiative to say, “Jonathan, I'll arrange a private flight to a tropical jungle in Norham in the afternoon. Military operations are frequently carried out there, so Thymionians wouldn't dare to go there. It's safe.”

“Thanks!” Jonathan answered.

“Now, let's go back to my place first,” Mabel uttered.

“Okay.” Jonathan had no problem with that, and he started the car.

Mabel didn't bother explaining herself because she knew why Jonathan was mad.

At five in the afternoon, Jonathan and Mabel brought the cacodemon to Yaleview International Airport.

Jonathan and the cacodemon boarded the private plane, and Mabel quickly followed suit.

“Why are you here as well?” Jonathan was surprised.

Mabel merely smiled faintly in response. “The cacodemon is my life savior, so I need to send it off.”

Hearing that, Jonathan went silent.

Shortly after, the private plane took off and soared into the sky. There, the passengers saw the mesmerizing horizon that showcased the beauty of their home country.

“Silly!” Mabel suddenly knocked on Jonathan's head.

Jonathan was baffled.

Mabel laughed and said, “Did you really think I was that heartless? The cacodemon saved my life! How could I agree to let the Thymionians kill it?”

Still confused, the cacodemon and Jonathan stared blankly at Mabel.

“Jeff isn't a bad guy, but he has his principles. There was no way we could change his mind. He had already discreetly contacted the officials in Thymion. He was planning to send us straight to the enemies. Although he didn't tell me his plans, I knew what was on his mind,” Mabel explained.

Jonathan drew back in shock. What the f*ck? And I thought I was smart! I'm practically as innocent as a lamb in front of Jeff.

“Are you saying that you were pretending to be on Jeff's side?” Jonathan was over the moon when he realized what was going on. I would be so sad if Mabel turned out to be a cruel and heartless person. If she was, that would mean we would never see eye to eye.

“Of course!” Mabel responded, annoyed.

At that moment, the cacodemon was less hostile toward Mabel.

“What should we do now?” Jonathan asked.

“I made the arrangement for this private plane, so I've already set the course. We're going to Olswick instead of Norham,” Mabel replied.

Jonathan let out a sigh of relief.
