As Jess pulled the truck up to my house, I noticed i was dark and lifeless, contrasting with the warm lights glowing at hers. It was always dark in that house because turning a light on meant people would see....

I know Jessica didn't want to go home because she would have to see Josh and Luara probably hooking up - well, maybe not, considering he got concussed, but that was most likely the reason she lingered in the car. Finally, I broke the silence. "Thank you for driving me home." The words felt rough coming from me as they grated over my throat. I needed to apologize, but that meant acknowledging that something had happened and that I wasn't ready to face that reality just yet. Jessica nodded, then switched off the idling truck and got out.
