Chapter 87
Nancy said at once, “Hey, watch your tone.”
“What? Am I wrong?” Cindy replied, indignant. “He’s just some lowlife who doesn’t even have a job yet! Gosh, I sure hope you don’t end up getting scammed by him.”
Nancy shook her head helplessly. It seemed like Cindy was still ignorant of how powerful Wilbur was from the way she spoke of him.
“Him? Scamming me? That’s impossible. You don’t know what you’re talking about,” was all Nancy could
say.
Cindy, however, took a seat right next to Nancy. “I heard that you’re now the general manager at Willow
Corp?”
“Uh, I’m just the general manager of one of the departments there.”
Cindy chuckled. “That’s all I need to know, You’re a manager now, and that idiot Wilbur doesn’t even have a job! He’s using your relationship as an ex-classmate to cheat you into a relationship. Isn’t that obvious?”

Nancy was dumbstruck. She did not understand just how Cindy’s brain worked to think so poorly of
someone.
A moment later, Nancy shook her head. “You’re overthinking things. I asked Wilbur out myself.”
“What?” It was Cindy’s turn to be shocked now, as she shouted, “You’re paying for that loser? What’s so great about him, anyways?
Nancy felt like her head was going to explode. “We’re just having lunch. Could you please not make it sound like that?”
*Just having lunch?” Cindy rolled her eyes. “Like hell I’m going to believe you! I’m telling you, we’re in our prime right now. It’s important to choose the right partner. The rest of your life is at stake here! You’re going to have a hard time in your fifties if you end up with someone like Wilbur.”
Nancy did not know what to say. She gave it some thought and finally decided to reveal a little information to Cindy.
She wanted Cindy to know that Wilbur was nothing like what he used to be and was far from the loser she was calling him. That was to avoid a confrontation when Wilbur got here.
Nancy said, “Cindy, do you remember when Wilbur got us out of trouble at that last gathering?”
“Oh my gosh, you brought it up.” Cindy scoffed, unimpressed. “He didn’t do sh*t. It was Edward who had to call his dad and take care of that Torrent guy just so Wilbur didn’t get beaten up. I wasn’t even going to talk about it, but you just had to bring it up.”
Nancy widened her eyes. She had seen for herself that Wilbur scared Will Torrent into a quivering mess -just on his own, and Wilbur was even given a card with unlimited spending. Why did Cindy make it sound
like Edward had saved the day?
“Is that what Edward told you?” Nancy said, confused.
Cindy smiled haughtily. “Of course. Edward called his dad in front of me on the way home. He couldn’t
have lied!”
Nancy was silent. It was clear that Cindy had been lied to.
Yet Nancy did not want to expose the truth and put Cindy in a bad light.
