Taking a deep breath, Alex’s voice came out low and forceful, as it were pushed from his chest. He threatened her harshly. “Ellie, if you dare say that again, I’ll strangle you!”

Frightened by the anger in Alex’s eyes, Ellie seized an opporturily when he wasn’t paying attention, crouched down, and crawled toward the door.

As her hand reached the doorknob, Alex grabbed the back of her neck.

With a swift kick, Alex shut the door, Ellie twisted out of his hold and ran toward the bathroom.

Alex held the bathroom door open with one hand, his intense gaze fixed on Ellie. He taunted, “Go ahead, and say it again. I dare you!”
