Daniel inched closer, his chest nearly touching her flushed face. He murmured in her ear in a low, charming voice, "I'll keep waiting until you nod."

Maisie stood there, unmoving. She glanced at him, then chuckled shyly.

Forcing a smile, he said, "I need to head back."

"Take care of yourself. Call me after the tea party ends, and I'll come pick you up."

"You focus on your work," she said. "My home isn't far. I'll manage."
