She had just had a blowout with that jerk, and now, why would he agree to go back home with her? Even without today's drama, Everett wouldn't have gone. Every time she asked him before, his answer was always the same: too busy.

Selena bit her lower lip, struggling to find the right words. Grace had lost her husband when she was young and had raised her son all by herself. He'd grown up to be successful, married a wonderful woman, and had a bright, clever daughter. Grace thought she'd finally have some time to enjoy life. But then tragedy struck, taking her son and daughter-in-law in one fell swoop, leaving her to bury her own child. If it weren't for her deep love for her granddaughter Selena, she might have followed them.

As the years went by, Grace's health declined, and her biggest worry became Selena. She feared what would happen if she left Selena alone.

But three years without a visit made Grace uneasy. Was he truly that busy, or did he just not care about her granddaughter?
