Avery’s pov

The truth is I am terrified that he’d not come back and as I stared at him fighting against those hunters my eyes glisten.

Wind whips beside my leg and Kaylee whines under me. I drop my gaze to where the arrow had nearly attacked me and noticed that one was stuck in Kaylee’s back leg. Panic surges in me but she does not stop, she keeps her pace despite the arrow sticking through her leg.

Pulling it out would be risky, especially in the open. Kaylee’s pace didn’t falter and suddenly she veered off the tracks and went east. The path is a bit narrower, the foliage thicker and darker as the sharp branches snap against my skin brutally.

It felt like hours until Kaylee slowed down, limping a bit. I looked around. She clearly needed a break and also needed to get the arrow out.

We haven’t spotted any hunters as yet so hopefully they’d not suddenly show up now.
