Avery’s pov

The weight that had been heavy on my shoulders loosen as soon as I saw his beast. Xade growls, stepping over the fallen hunter as he approaches me in a rush.

Just behind him is Xaden’s wolf who rushes over to Kaylee who has already shifted back into her human form, hissing in pain.

I look over at her. ” Kaylee,” I begin to rip another strip off my shirt to help her with another wound just as Xade reaches beside me and nudges my stomach lightly with his snout, whining a bit.

My eyes soften and I bury my hands in his fur. The familiar warmth calms me down from the chaos that happened just moments ago.

I’m okay, baby is okay, it’s Kaylee who is hurt,”

Kaylee!” Xaden yells as he shifts and falls on his knees beside her. I am okay, it just stings because of the wolfsbane laced in the arrow,” she tries to ease his worries despite her being the one who is injured.

“You’re not okay, you’re hurt,” Xaden grumbles under his breath.

“It’s not the worst pain I’ve felt,” Kaylee grits through her teeth as she tries to mask the look of pain off her face. But none of us bought it. She looks down at the arrow still pierced through her leg. ” It will heal eventually.”

Xaden’s expression looks grim and I move to Kaylee, kneeling beside her. “We need to get the arrow out,” I looked at her and saw how shy she was being naked in front of Xaden. I don’t know if to awe at the moment or give them their privacy.
