Chapter 1755: And so, the hunt began.

Slater sat in the empty ward, rocking slightly as he remained deep in thought. People outside the ward—including the police—were already at work. After all, opening fire on hospital grounds, especially in the VIP ward, was bound to draw attention.

Just then, Mint walked into the room. The bed was empty, which no longer surprised her. Her eyes shifted to the chair where Slater sat.

She stepped in and gently closed the door behind her before approaching.

"The original guards those guys replaced were found in storage. Fortunately, they’re alive, but heavily sedated. So, they wouldn’t be able to talk. As for the guys you confronted, they aren’t talking — yet," she casually reported, stopping a few steps away. "I already checked the CCTV, though. So, got a gist of what happened here."

This time, Slater looked up at her. "Was he abducted?"

Mint didn’t answer immediately. She studied the look on his face. Even though she now worked closely with Hugo, working with Slater still felt like an entirely different experience. Both brothers were capable, but had an entirely different approach.

"No," she finally replied. "I don’t believe he was abducted."

Slater’s jaw tightened as he rose slowly from his seat. But just as he was about to walk past her, Mint grabbed his arm to stop him.

"Where are you going?" she asked, her grip firm. "Slater Bennet, we’re already working on our plan. Don’t ruin it."

Slater’s eyes shifted back to her—sharp and unbending. "I’m going to look for him, Mint. If this is all part of his plan, I doubt he got himself stabbed for no reason. He’s onto something, and I’m not going to sit around waiting to find out what. That guy’s highly dangerous."

And he said that with the knowledge that Mint didn’t have. That Jonathan was reborn and knew exactly what had happened.

Silence stretched between them as their eyes locked with each other. Her grip on his arm tightened, but he pulled free.

Without another word, Slater turned and continued toward the door.

Mint kept her eyes on his back. But just before he reached the door, her phone buzzed. She didn’t take her eyes off him as she answered.

Her face quickly darkened.
