Due to the sedative in the medicine, Sean, who had been crying about his stomach pain, drifted off to sleep. He lay quietly on the hospital bed, his round belly rising and falling gently. There were still visible tear stains on his cheeks, making him look adorable and pitiable.

Nadine grabbed some tissues, gently wiped away the tear stains on his face, and tossed the used tissue into the trash. Throughout the whole ordeal, she hadn't said a word to Brad or even looked his way.

The hospital room was quiet, with only the faintest spring breeze passing through, rustling the curtains by the window. The stillness was almost suffocating.

Brad sat on the other side of the hospital bed, watching Nadine skillfully massage Sean's bloated tummy, filled with regret and guilt. He wanted to speak up, but every time he parted his lips, words failed him.

In the end, all he could say was, "I'm sorry." Those two words carried so little weight that they failed to convey even a hint of his remorse.

When she heard his apology, she didn't even lift her gaze. She continued to massage Sean's belly, her gaze as still and unchanging as a stagnant pond.
