Chapter 499

The neon lights were especially dazzling at midnight, casting a vibrant glow over the bustling night market in the Capital. It was Cameron's first time visiting the market, and he was immediately drawn to the myriad of stalls showcasing all sorts of figurines. He crouched down, carefully inspecting each one until he found a true gem-a little white rabbit. He remembered that Nina's zodiac sign was the rabbit, and it seemed like the perfect gift.

He made sure the stall owner wrapped it with extra care before he headed home with the gift box tucked under his arm. By the time Cameron walked through the door, it was already past ten at night. To his surprise, Greta was still up, sitting alone on the couch in the living room, waiting for him. Cameron greeted her with a cool expression. "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

Greta stood up and moved towards him, gently taking his package, helping him shed his coat, and even bending down to change his shoes. "Cameron," she said softly, "I've been thinking for a long time. Our marriage wasn't easy to come by, and it seems foolish to act rashly. If there's trouble between us, we should work on fixing it, not throwing in the towel."

Cameron kept quiet, and it was hard to tell if her humble attempt to reconcile had any effect on him.

Continuing, Greta said, "I know I've been spoiled by my father and haven't been the kind, considerate wife I should be. But I can change; I can learn to be a good wife. I'll cook and clean if that's what it takes, as long as you're willing."

Still, Cameron said nothing, and Greta's face fell further as her efforts met with silence. "Cameron, are you really going to give up on me?" she asked, her voice trembling.

After what seemed like an eternity, Cameron finally spoke, his voice barely above a whisper, "Our love has faded. Nothing you do can change that."
