A loud bang jolted me and Aisha awake. My eyes flew open, a curse on the tongue, but it died in my throat when I saw who had come through the door.

It was Alpha Kex, his expression unreadable as he stood in the doorway, his hands crossed behind his back. My heart pounded in my chest, my mind racing.

“It’s time,” he said, his voice grave and cold.

I turned to look out the window, the darkness still enveloping the world outside. I glanced at the clock on the wall, its hands telling me it was only 4:09 AM.

“Isn’t it early?” I asked, my voice shaking.

Alpha Kex’s eyes narrowed, his brow furrowing in anger. “You do not question me,” he said, his voice sharp and full of warning. I swallowed the lump in my throat, nodding my head in agreement.

I was about to stand when Aisha’s arms wrapped around me, pulling me into a tight. hug. I allowed myself to sob, letting the tears flow freely as I buried my face in her chest.

“I don’t think I can survive here without you,” Aisha whispered, her voice breaking.

I shushed her, trying to reassure her. “You will be fine,” I said, even though I wasn’t sure if I believed my own words. I was terrified for both of us, but I had to stay strong for

her.

“Enough of this,” Alpha Kex said, his voice impatient. “I don’t have all day.”
