While Nicole was still in deep thought, her phone rang. She glanced down and realized it was a call from Zachary. Since the incident that night at F&R Enterprise's trade fair, they hadn't been in touch for a long time. She knew the purpose of his call—he probably wanted to inquire about her news trending on the Internet.

Staring at the phone for a long time, she finally decided to pick it up. Once the call was connected, there was a short silence. Shortly after, he inquired, "Are you alright, Nicky?"

She smiled bitterly and replied, "It's nothing serious."

Nicole paused, lowered her eyes, and mentioned what had happened previously. "Did the drug subside after Harvey took you home that night?"

Hearing her talk about the previous incident, Zachary went silent for a bit before replying in a hoarse voice, "Yeah."

This time, it was Nicole's turn to go silent.

After a while, he spoke, "Do you mind what happened before?" His tone conveyed anxiety as he explained, "I never thought of taking advantage of you. It's true that I like you, but I never thought of using such despicable means to get my hands on you. I—"

Usually, Zachary was a calm person, so the flustered tone in his voice was very much apparent this time. After being taken away by Harvey and given some medicine to make the drug subside, Zachary immersed himself in self-blame. He had had a crush on Nicole for years but never did anything that crossed the line. That night, however, he went crazy and wanted her body to himself.

Though he was drugged, it shouldn't be an exception for him to act that way.

After hearing the remorse and panic in his voice, Nicole calmed him. "Don't worry about it. I understand."

He paused, apparently not expecting her to forgive him so quickly.

Nicole chuckled, then continued, "I've known you for years, Zachary. I know what you are like. Besides, I have also been drugged, so I know exactly how you feel. I don't hate you. The one who deserves my hate is the one who drugged me!"

Despite that, he still had mixed feelings. How could he think of using this opportunity to take advantage of her?

Zachary's eyes were filled with disappointment. It took a while before he blurted, "Yeah. I've sent someone to investigate this matter, but the whole place was in chaos since there was a shooting that day. They haven't found the instigator yet."

"Okay," she replied.

Covering up the gloomy feeling, he pulled himself together and moved on to a serious topic. "By the way, I saw what happened on the news. I'll help you deal with it, so don't worry too much about it."
