Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 772

"Have you been good at home today?" Nicole smiled as she took off her shoes, put on a pair of white slippers, and then sauntered to the two.

Zachary lowered his gaze at her, then seemed to have thought of something as he asked gently in his hoarse voice, "Would you like to eat something? There's still pasta left over from lunch; I can heat it up for you."

Nicole shook her head, then picked Hayden up as she looked at Zachary, saying, "It's okay, I just ate."

Zachary seemed listless, and there wasn't much of an expression on his face as he responded in a low voice. On the other hand, Hayden held onto Nicole, then suddenly asked, "Mom, where's Dad?"

At the sound of his crisp and childish voice, the two adults in the room froze simultaneously.

Nicole pursed her lips and stayed silent for a while before saying slowly, "Hayden, if you miss Dad, I'll call him up tomorrow and ask him to bring you out on a trip."

Hayden's pitch-black pupils shifted, then he looked up earnestly at Nicole, nodding as he said, "Okay. Mom, let's go out with Dad tomorrow, okay? We can go to the amusement park."

Nicole wanted to decline out of habit, but when she saw the strong anticipation in Hayden's eyes, she swallowed her words. When Hayden saw Nicole hesitating, his long eyelashes began to quiver as he sniffed, and he sounded like he was about to cry.

With his voice trembling, he lowered his head and said in disappointment, "I'm a big kid now, but I've never been to the amusement park with Mom and Dad before. I heard other kids say that their parents would always take them to amusement parks."

Seeing Hayden sobbing, Nicole felt her heart aching for him. Ever since Hayden was born, even Nicole herself had rarely brought him out to play, much less go to the amusement park with him and his dad.

Back then, her mother had just passed away from a serious illness, and she had no money under her name. She could only work ceaselessly to earn money. The first few years were spent busily making money, and then when she became the Chief Designer, she busied herself with socializing and work.

There was a complicated look in Nicole's eyes. At the side, Zachary was silent for a long while. After some time, he stood up and said slowly, "Hayden is Colton's son. That's the unchangeable truth. It's only reasonable that he would want to spend time with his parents."

Nicole was a little surprised to hear Zachary's gentle and compromising words. She thought that Zachary would definitely reject that, but she never expected him to agree sooner than she did.

She blinked, a look of helplessness flashing across her eyes. Zachary chuckled gently, then strode near to her with his long legs. He reached out and laid a hand on Hayden's head, caressing it softly as he said nonchalantly, "You have all the time in the world now. Go and spend time with Hayden."

Nicole looked down at her son in her arms. His dark eyes were filled with anticipation. She couldn't bear to decline, so after hesitating for a moment, she said faintly, "All right, I'll call up your dad later. But only this once."

When Hayden heard that, the pitiful look on his face was immediately replaced with a broad smile as he nodded. "Okay."

After responding, Hayden got down from Nicole's embrace. He was about to run upstairs when he suddenly thought of something. He instantly stopped in his tracks, then turned to look at Nicole, saying, "Mom, you have to keep your word. I'm going upstairs now. I want to prepare clothes to wear to the amusement park tomorrow."
