Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 784

"Colton, is my sister with you?" Gabriel's voice sounded gentle and it sounded like he was helpless too.

Colton affirmed Gabriel's question in a low voice but did not say any more words.

Gabriel seemed to have known what had happened then, so he sighed before he added, "I have no idea why she suddenly returned to the country. Then, after thinking about it, I guessed that she would look for you."

Colton's perfunctory hum came next.

Gabriel paused as he sensed that something was wrong with his friend, which left him cautious as he tried to prod into the matter. "Did Evelyn do something unexpected?"

When Evelyn was at home, she was pampered. Based on her status, she would not have to suffer any hardships.

He was afraid that she would do something to Colton, so he couldn't help but voice his worries aloud.

"Nope," came Colton's indifferent reply.

Because he wanted to leave some respect for the Wrenn Family and Gabriel, he didn't do anything to Evelyn.

There was a sigh of relief in Gabriel's voice before he continued, "My mother will flying out tonight, so she would arrive tomorrow to bring Evelyn back. You have my consent to deal with Evelyn if she has caused you any trouble."

"I know; I have my limits," Colton responded.

Gabriel hummed in reply and said nothing more.

Once Colton ended the call, he wondered what kind of excellent opportunity would draw Evelyn back to the country at lightning speed. It turns out that Madam Gould is flying in, which leaves Evelyn with little choice but to head back.

Evelyn was quiet when she saw that he was on the phone. She waited until he was done before she asked, "What's up? Who called you?"

He pursed his lips and merely answered, "None of your business."

At that, she was wise enough to know to zip it.

The car was on a slow drive in the direction of the restaurant that Evelyn mentioned. Colton parked the car and took her into the building thereafter.

Evelyn was loquacious along their journey and gave the perception that she had endless topics to discuss.

He was silent; he merely shoved his hands into the pockets of his pants and entered the restaurant stoically.

After the meal, I can finally send Evelyn off. This way, I would have fulfilled Grandpa's instructions while avoiding making the Wrenns awkward.

It was not mealtime yet, but the restaurant was already packed with people. Although Colton was not in his formal attire today, the restaurant owner was still able to recognize Colton and immediately rushed forward to flatter the man.

"President Gardner, why didn't you inform us beforehand that you were coming? We would have made preparations. Same room as before?"

Colton merely wanted to nod, but Evelyn rejected him. Instead, she pointed to a table by the window and said, "Collie, why don't we head there instead? The private room is too quiet and I hate it."

At her words, he frowned to indicate his displeasure. Yet, Evelyn immediately tried to explain, "Don't forget your promise to Old Mr. Benedict."

Colton didn't snap but merely walked toward the direction that she pointed with his long legs.

The restaurant was located on a busy street, so the diners could see the passersby if they sat near the window. Colton took his seat, after which the restaurant manager handed the menu to him.

"You can order whatever you want. You don't have to ask me." At that, Colton ignored Evelyn once more and casually looked out the window.

Even though it wasn't 11.00AM, the office employees were still not off for their break yet. There were only two to three people on the street.
