Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 785

Colton's pupils shrank as he curled his hands into fists. He fixed his glare on the three people in front of him. Nicole looked as if she wanted to get something, and she mumbled a few words in Zachary's ear. Zachary then took Hayden into his arms in a swift and effortless motion. The three of them acted in a natural, harmonious manner that made them seem like a loving family.

Evelyn was talking, but then she shifted her gaze to look at what Colton was staring at when she saw him looking into the distance. She happened to see Nicole and Zachary interacting with one another—both of them were giggling as they spoke, and the chemistry between them seemed really strong, even from afar. All of a sudden, Colton felt a surge of anger in his chest. His expression turned even darker than before, and he was clenching his fists so hard that his nails were digging into his palms.

When Evelyn noticed Colton's actions, her gaze flickered for a moment before she plastered a smile onto her face and turned back to look at Colton. "That looks like Nicole, Colton. There's a guy with her, too. If my memory serves me right, he should be a part of the Yates Family," she uttered. Colton only tore his gaze away from the family when he heard Evelyn's voice. As he shifted his focus back to Evelyn, Evelyn kept a smile on her face as she continued talking.

"Zachary Yates is pretty famous overseas. He used to be the president of F&M Apparel, but for some reason, he later quit his role and returned home to take over the Yates Family. It only took him about half a year to restructure the family, so it's clear that he isn't someone to be trifled with," Evelyn explained. Colton knew all of this, of course, but he simply kept his mouth shut.

Evelyn rested her chin on her hand for a while before her eyes lit up as if she had suddenly recalled something. "By the way, Colton, I just remembered why Zachary took over the Yates Family so quickly. It was because of a woman." Her words finally piqued Colton's interest this time—he had done his research on the man's background, but he hadn't paid much attention to the gossip surrounding this topic.

Evelyn continued speaking when she saw how interested Colton seemed. "Back when Zachary was the president of F&M Apparel, he fell for a woman who was pregnant before she was married. That woman's child was not his, so the Yates Family was strongly against his relationship with her. In the end, Zachary had no choice but to return to the Yates Family to convince them to accept the woman. He had to use all sorts of tactics just to gain control over the family," she explained.

When Evelyn saw how calm and collected Colton looked, she felt a sudden urge to do something bad. "I recall how Nicole used to be the Chief Designer of F&M Apparel. She had a child without getting married, too. On top of that, they seem to be intimate with one another now. Could Zachary have done all of this for the sake of Nicole?" This time, Colton's expression darkened after listening to Evelyn's words.

Evelyn continued to rest her chin on her palm as she took a sip of her tea to quench her thirst. "Ah, I'd feel pretty envious of Nicole if that were the case. It must be nice to have a man who can do so much for her," Evelyn commented. Colton no longer wanted to continue the conversation. "Order your food," he stated while pointing at the menu.

Evelyn had already said everything that she wanted to say, and she was smart enough to know when to keep her mouth shut. She began to order her food with a pleased look on her face.

Right then, Colton looked up to realize that Nicole and Zachary were walking in their direction. It seemed like they were there for a meal as well. Before Colton realized what he was doing, he found himself staring at Nicole. It was peak hour in the restaurant, and there were a lot of customers around. However, Colton could still hear Nicole's conversation with Zachary as he had his gaze fixed on her the whole time.

"There're a lot of people here," Nicole uttered in a matter-of-factly tone. Zachary turned to look at the woman before giving her a warm grin. "Yeah. This place is pretty well known, so we might not have gotten a spot if we arrived any later. I've already made a reservation, so we can head upstairs to our room."
