Chapter 830

The event went on smoothly. After Zachary returned with some desserts for Nicole, he noticed an unusual emotion on her face. Slightly confused, he asked her, "What's wrong? I've only left for a short while. Why do you look sad? Did someone bully you?"

She looked at his gentle visage and shook her head. "No. Perhaps I'm too hungry, and you were gone for too long."

An apologetic look appeared on his face as soon as he heard her grumble, so he placed the food on the coffee table in front of the couch before explaining, "I bumped into some acquaintances, and they insisted on chatting. That's why I came back later. Here, have some."

Nicole smiled and looked at his solemn face as he tried to explain himself. In response, she waved her hand and said, "I was just teasing you with that nonsense. I bumped into someone I disliked earlier, so that's why."

"Okay." Zachary nodded. In actuality, he witnessed the bicker between her and another woman earlier from afar. Knowing that she would talk about it on her own accord, he decided not to bring it up until she did.

Tonight, Colton arrived at the party with Anna and Benedict.

The Wrenns and Gardners shared a strong relationship. Although this was only Siobhan's birthday party, Jackson would certainly be present. As such, Benedict decided to attend as well.

Since Benedict was not in his best health, he was not able to stand for long and had to rest after walking for a certain period.

The guests noticed that some members of the Gardner Family had arrived, so they clamored around the Gardners to establish ties. Initially, Benedict could handle them perfunctorily, but he could not quite muster up his effort after some time.

Meanwhile, Colton deflected everything discreetly and helped him into a room. At that moment, they were met with Siobhan, who was in her wheelchair, along with Jackson, who was assisting her.

As soon as Jackson saw Benedict, he greeted him respectfully, "Hello, Mr. Gardner. How have you been?"

Benedict smiled and looked at Jackson before lamenting, "I'm fine. It's been some time since I last saw you, you rascal. I heard from your dad that you've hardly come home since you joined the army."

Chuckling, Jackson revealed an awkward smile, and the usually staunch man looked abashed. "Yes. I've been busy with work, so I haven't had much chance to come home. I've realized that my parents are getting older while the kids are now grown-ups. If I'm stuck at the force most of the time, it would be an inconvenience too. I should consider retirement."

Benedict nodded in response and smiled. "That's great. You should spend more time with your family indeed."

After the men ended their conversation, Benedict shifted his gaze onto Evelyn, who was standing behind Jackson. He glanced at her and spoke with slightly narrowed eyes, "You look great in this dress, Evelyn."
