Chapter 890

Naturally, the female employee dared not say Hayden was lying. Panic was written all over her face; she wanted to say something, but she couldn't utter a syllable, as if the words were stuck in her throat. After a long time, she apologized tremblingly, "S-Sorry, President Gardner. I didn't mean it."

"You're fired," Colton said in an icy voice. Then, darting a frosty glance at everyone present, he said, "I'm hiring you guys to work, not to gossip about other people. Just do your job instead of wagging your tongue as you please. Otherwise, get out of here."

Hearing the chill in the man's impassive voice, everyone instantly shut up. The Gardner Corporation's pay was considered the highest in the country, and those who had managed to fight for a spot here were picked through multiple layers of selection.

Having finished his speech, Colton went out with Nicole and Hayden.

The fired employee couldn't help but slump to the ground. She had just lost her job because of her loose tongue. Now that the Gardner Corporation had fired her, which other company would have the nerve to hire her?

Nicole knew that her son was sticking up for her just now. But when did he learn to do this? How could he lie so confidently? She knitted her brows slightly.

Instantly sensing her displeasure, Hayden hung his head and apologized, "Sorry, Mom. I shouldn't have lied."

Nicole looked askance at him. In the end, however, she didn't say anything reproachful.

Colton looked like he had expected this. Patting the boy's head, he said, "He's done nothing wrong. He was just sticking up for his mother."

Nicole was surprised; little did she expect the man to understand what had happened. So, he was sticking up for me just now? She pursed her lips without saying a word.

It was already nightfall when Nicole came back with Hayden. She had wanted to come back in the afternoon, but Hayden clung onto Colton and insisted on having fun until nighttime. As a result, she exhausted herself playing with them. Luckily, she didn't wear high heels to look pretty, or she would have been paralyzed by now.

She sat on the sofa while gently pounding her calves.

Children were full of vigor, but they got tired quickly, too. After Nicole helped him wash himself, Hayden went to bed and fell asleep.

Nicole was just about to go back upstairs for some rest when Zachary came over.

Seeing her wearily pounding her calves nonstop, he took the opportunity to sit beside her. Then, he lifted her legs and started massaging them little by little.

Nicole froze. She wanted to pull her legs back, but Zachary held them firmly in his grasp. "Let me massage them for you." He laid his fingers on her calves, pressing them perfectly with just the right amount of strength.

Nicole's eyes lowered. She said in embarrassment, "I-I'm fine."

"That's okay. This is nothing to me." Zachary massaged her calves gently as if handling some precious treasure.

Nicole didn't keep refusing him either. She raised her head slightly as if recalling something. Suddenly, she said, "Something I didn't expect happened today."

"Tell me about it. I'm listening," replied Zachary.

Nicole felt that whenever Zachary was around her, she would feel relaxed and free of burden. Without hiding the matter from him, she said, "I met Gabriel Wrenn today. He showed me the results of a DNA paternity test."

Zachary stopped massaging her legs for a moment. Then, he raised his eyes, asking, "What kind of paternity test was that?"

"It was done on Madam Gould and me," Nicole replied impassively before a bitter smile curved her lips. She continued, "The results show that Madam Gould and I are directly related by blood."

Upon hearing this, Zachary finally reacted. His brows furrowed, and he stopped what he was doing. After a long time, he finally asked, "You mean you're Madam Gould's daughter?"
