Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 889

Seeing Gabriel caught in a dilemma, Nicole didn't pressure him either. Instead, she said magnanimously, "Mr. Wrenn, even though this matter is already clear, it's obvious that we're both unprepared for this." She had a gentle smile on her face. Now that this matter had been brought into the open, she suddenly felt kind of relaxed, as though numerous weights had been lifted off her shoulders. Curling her lips into a smile, she continued, "It's been so many years, anyway, and it's not like I'm pressed for time either. You can go back and discuss this with Madam Gould and Old Mr. Wrenn first."

Gabriel's heart ached at the sight of the woman's sensible demeanor. He had imagined how she would react upon learning that she was a member of the Wrenn Family, but never did he think she would remain so calm.

Both the Wrenns and the Goulds were of great prestige both in the country and abroad. If it weren't for the two families, it would have been impossible to cover up what Evelyn had done previously. Even so, now that the fact was laid before Nicole that her birth parents were of such respectable status, she neither blamed anyone immediately nor did she hasten to reunite with them.

Gabriel thought very highly of Nicole at this moment at least. "Both my dad and my mom are unaware of this yet. Miss Anderson—I mean, Nicole, I'll tell them about it this weekend. Could you come to the Gould Residence by then?" he asked. It would take time to accept this, but both Jackson and Siobhan had the right to know.

Nicole nodded and replied, "Okay."

Gabriel looked at her. No wonder she struck me as familiar when I first saw her. Turns out it's not only because she looked like Mom but also because she is my sister.

No sooner had their conversation ended than Colton came back with Hayden in his arms.

Nicole and Gabriel were silent as if nothing had happened between them previously.

Turning to look at Nicole, Colton said, "Hayden is done, and I've made a reservation at a restaurant. Let's go there for lunch first."

Gabriel quietly took back the file on the desk. Then, he stood up, saying, "Go ahead with it, then. I've got something else to do, so I gotta go." Astute as he was, he turned around and left instead of playing gooseberry after finishing his sentence.

"Uh-huh," Nicole replied with a forced smile on her face.

The three then prepared to go downstairs, but as they took the elevator, Hayden insisted that they went down with Colton carrying him in his arms.

At first, Nicole wanted to chide him for this, but she couldn't dissuade her reasonable son from doing so. He argued, "Why can't I ask my dad to carry me in his arms?"

Nicole was rendered speechless. Indeed, it seems there's nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, Colton had always catered to Hayden's whims. In a rare display of tenderness, he stretched out his hands and gently picked the boy up, and they even talked and laughed in perfect harmony.

When the elevator door slowly opened, silence suddenly descended upon the crowd who had initially been gossiping about how shameless Nicole was.

Those in the lobby gaped in astonishment at the three who came out of the elevator. Colton seemed to be laughing happily, and the three looked very well-matched and pleasing to the eye as they stood together.

Hayden didn't spare anyone's feelings either. He pointed at the woman who had just accused Nicole of being shameless, saying, "Dad, she just said it was shameless of me to come to you when you're about to get married." His clear voice was full of grievance, while his big, watery eyes looked very pitiful.

Colton stopped in his tracks, fixing his gaze upon the female employee while giving off frosty vibes from every pore.

Seeing the look in his eyes, the female employee panicked. She hurriedly explained, "President Gardner, I-I didn't say that. I really didn't say that." I was talking about Nicole!
