Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 922

Colton hummed in assent before pulling Nicole to leave.

Inside the car, Nicole leaned against the seat as her body became increasingly warm. She licked her dry lips while uncontrollably gulping.

Later, she rolled down the window, and the driver in front sensibly turned on the air conditioner.

Halfway into their drive, Nicole finally realized she had forgotten something. "Where's Hayden?"

I haven't seen Hayden all this while. Did something happen to him? she wondered.

"Children get tired easily, and he's been complaining about wanting to sleep earlier on, so my mom coaxed him to return home to sleep. I'll bring you to see him once you sober up tomorrow," Colton informed.

It was already past 10.00PM now. The banquet began in the afternoon, and after some trivial matters, the banquet was prolonged until now.

After hearing that her son was fine, Nicole nodded and felt rest assured.

Since the air conditioner was on, the atmosphere inside the car quieted down a little, leaving only the sound of the car's engine.

Nicole closed her eyes. For some reason, she felt a warm feeling surging inside her. Even though she had the air conditioner on full blast, she still felt agitated.

Back at the banquet, Wendy was grinning while Anna looked at her strangely before asking, "What did you do? And what's there to be so happy about?"

Using her hand to prop up her chin, Wendy had an obvious smile while explaining, "I feel happy at the thought of Nicole being with Colton."

Anna looked at how happy her daughter was and smiled as well. "This is just an act. Nicole said that once the engagement ceremony ends, she will find an excuse to leave."

While watching her mom mercilessly bursting her bubble, Wendy pouted her lips in displeasure and grunted. "They are going to get it on with each other anyway. Once Nicole gets pregnant, what was fake will become real."

Anna had a bad feeling when she heard that and frowned. She was wondering why Wendy was acting so courteous just now, and now she knew why.

"What did you do with the wine?"

Shrugging her shoulders, Wendy shook her head and argued, "I didn't do anything. I got it from my friend who says it's maca liqueur. It's good for one's health."

Feeling at a loss for words, Anna looked at her daughter and thought about how she was wrong to believe that her daughter was innocent. Now she knew Wendy was as two-faced as Colton.

But Anna liked Nicole as well, so she would accept it if Nicole could end up as her daughter-in-law.

"Don't pull such a stunt again. If Colton finds out about this, he'll definitely teach you a lesson." Anna felt resigned but couldn't bring herself to scold her daughter.

On the other hand, Wendy agreed while smiling, "I understand, Mom."
