Ava Grey is an outcast in her own pack—the Blackwood Pack—because she is wolfless, a defect in the eyes of her family and fellow shifters. Treated as worthless, she works at a human coffee shop in White Peak, where she finds solace away from the bullying of her pack. Her only friend, Lisa, a human unaware of Ava’s shifter nature, encourages her to escape and start a new life. However, Ava knows that leaving the pack isn't so simple.

Despite her family's cold treatment, Ava holds onto memories of when they loved her—before they realized she had no wolf. Now, she endures their neglect and occasional abuse, knowing the only true way out is through finding a fated mate in another pack. But deep down, she fears she may not have one—or worse, that life in a new pack will be just as cruel.

One fateful night, as she drives home through the darkened roads of Blackwood territory, a massive figure darts across the road, forcing her to swerve and crash. Injured and panicked, she struggles to restart her failing car, only to realize she is not alone. Watching from the treeline are two glowing yellow eyes—a silent, ominous presence in the shadows.
