“At least if we die, we go down in the most epic way” Isabella’s eyes were practically gleaming with excitement, and I had to snap my fingers in front of her face to bring her back to reality,

She jolted slightly, but the exhilaration didn’t leave her expression.

I rolled my eyes. “Don’t get any ideas. Only take the things on the list I made.”

“Don’t be a bore, Lilian. And how could you keep this from me for so long? I mean–wow, Lilian, just wow.”

1 let out a sigh at her dramatics, though I couldn’t really blame her. Her reaction was valid. The first time I discovered my parents‘ collection of weapons had been entirely by accident–and it had earned me one of the worst scoldings of my life from my mother.

Even now, as I stood in the hidden room beneath their mansion, surrounded by shelves lined with weapons, I could still hear her sharp voice echoing in my head.

The room itself was dimly lit, cold, and smelled faintly of metal and gunpowder. On the walls were neatly mounted racks of firearms–sleek sniper rifles, handguns, and semi–automatics, each positioned with precision. Along another section of the wall, there were blades of all kinds, from simple daggers to longer swords with intricate engravings on their hilts. A separate cabinet housed crossbows and bolts, some of them tipped with silver–likely meant for werewolves.

Then there were the more unconventional weapons. Poisoned needles. Smoke bombs. A small row of vials filled with unidentified liquids that I was almost certain were lethal if used correctly. Some of the weapons weren’t just for humans- they were meant to be used against werewolves, too. Silver–laced bullets. A modified dagger with a hidden compartment that could inject wolfsbane. Even chains reinforced with silver, capable of binding a werewolf no matter how strong they were.

I had made a list of what Isabella and I were going to take because we were going werewolf hunting. More specifically, we going Damien hunting. No one–not even Grayson–had been able to find him, and if there was one thing I was certain of, it was that he wasn’t hiding in plain sight. Damien knew us. He knew how we thought, how we planned. If I approached this the way a Pierce would, I would never find him.

I couldn’t think like a Pierce. I couldn’t think rationally.

Which was why we were here, selecting weapons for what was most likely a reckless and suicidal plan.

Isabella had already suggested hiring a PI to find my twin sister, but if my parents–with all their resources–hadn’t been able to track her down, then there was no way I could either. Especially not now that I knew Damien had been the one to take her.

Besides, I didn’t have the money to throw at a private investigator even if I wanted to. I had dropped Grayson’s black card the moment I had the chance, much to Isabella’s dismay.

The last thing I needed was to owe him anything else.

The sound of a door opening suddenly made both Isabella and me freeze.

Shit.

Even though my parents had lost any right to tell me what to do after all their lies, my mother still wouldn’t appreciate me being in here. She hadn’t the first–and only–time she caught me in this room, and I doubted time had changed that. My father was still unconscious upstairs, deep in whatever spell Maria had placed him under, which meant there was only one
