Early the following morning, Rosie brought a phone to the door and knocked on it. “Eli, it’s me.”

The door slowly opened only after a few minutes and Elias extended his arm out while in a robe. “Give me the phone. I won’t be having breakfast, so you don’t have to wait for me.”

She didn’t have a chance to say anything before he took the phone and closed the door, leaving her alone to face the cold sound from it.
